Any time you make a major purchase, such as a vending machine, it requires a certain amount of care and maintenance. Just like the purchase of a home or vehicle, the operation of a vending machine should be treated as an investment. Improper use and neglect of minute details will likely result in the loss of the machine’s ability to sell and will fundamentally lead to a loss of profit. There are several things that vending machine operators should consider when developing a vending machine maintenance plan to keep their machines running effectively. Refrigeration components

Clean the refrigeration inlet coils (condensers) every 1-2 months. The condenser is usually located at the very bottom of the machine, the exact location and maintenance can be detailed by asking the manufacturer of the machine you bought (here it is recommended to find the source production manufacturer to buy the machine, if it is just a trading company it is easy to do a perfunctory job or to wait too long causing loss of profit), it can be accessed from the front, but some models can be accessed from the back of the machine. Firstly, you will need to remove the protective metal kick plate which is easily identified by a gap or hole in the air inlet. This plate usually just lifts up, but may be screwed to the unit. Secondly, you can use a brush to remove any heavy build-up of lint or dust etc. After this, it may be necessary to use compressed air to remove any fine dirt/dust particles from the condenser itself. Once the cleaning is complete, you can reinstall the kickplate onto the vending machine.

Paper money dispenser

The note dispenser should be cleaned every 30 to 60 days, depending on usage. Always disconnect the power to the vending machine before cleaning. First remove the cash tray at the back of the unit. Clean the tray with a clean, dry cloth. Next, remove the sensor tray located above or below the money box. This will usually be pulled out by pressing down on the two tabs on either side of the tray. Clean the sensor tray with a clean, dry cloth. If it is very dirty you can dip the cloth into soapy water, wring it out completely, just to keep some moisture in it, and then use it to clean the tray. Make sure to dry the tray after all actions are completed, no moisture should be left in it.

Surge protector

Always plug your machine into a surge protector, not just the power cord! Most surge protectors have a resistance value. Most surge protectors have a test button or switch that can be reset. Test the protector every so often to make sure it is working properly. If your protector has a test button, press it to ensure it trips. If it has an on/off switch, turn the switch off to make sure it cuts off power to the vending machine. When testing either of these two scenarios, if the power to the vending machine is not cut off, replace the surge protector.

Coin-operated devices

For optimum operation, the coin unit tube should normally be filled 2/3 full. depending on usage, the coin unit should be cleaned every 30 to 60 days. Always disconnect the vending machine from the power supply before cleaning. Clean the coin slot with a clean, dry cloth. If it is very dirty, dip the cloth in soapy water, wring it out completely until it is damp and clean the tray. Be sure to dry the tray when you have finished. Clean the coin opening on the mechanism side and the door side. When cleaning be sure to check for damaged or missing parts.

Machine collection and shipping mechanism

Check the beverage/snack vending machine for proper operation each time a new product is loaded, or every 60 to 90 days. Go into the machine’s service mode and perform a motor test to sell the product to ensure there are no problems. Usually, there are few problems with snacks from vending machines. Due to the size of the bottles/cans and the total weight of the drinks when fully loaded, there may be problems with drinks not being pushed. Always test with 1 to 3 bottles/cans before filling the machine to ensure there are no problems. If drinks are not being sold properly, check that the conveyor mechanism is not binding, that the proper gaskets are being used, that the product is being loaded correctly, that sensors are not sold out, or that there are motor problems such as faulty or stripped gears. By following these basic maintenance routines, you can help extend the life of your vending machine. Following the guidelines for the machine’s capabilities and using it in the right way will ensure maximum productivity. If at any time, after trying basic troubleshooting techniques, the machine is still not functioning, ask the manufacturer who sells the equipment. Here again, I highly recommend buying directly from the manufacturer and not reselling through a middleman in order to get a proper and timely diagnosis.
